Frequently Asked Questions

What does a full day trip include? How about half a day?

Full day trips are 8 hours, dock-to-dock (usually 7am - 3pm). Half day trips are 4 hours, dock-to-dock (usually 7am - 11am). A couple of days prior to your scheduled trip we will connect to discuss specific logistics. I can pick you up at your Minnesota-based resort or public boat ramp on Rainy Lake, depending on your lodging . The time frames listed can be adjusted, if need be, due to weather or other considerations.

What is included in the cost?

The costs for rods/reels (all high-quality), bait/tackle, gas for the boat, life jackets, additional safety equipment and fish cleaning upon our return to the dock are all included. Expenses not included would be your fishing licenses and any snacks/drinks you choose to bring.

What kind of fishing license do I need?

This will depend on a number of factors including whether you choose to fish in Canadian or Minnesota waters, how many days you are fishing and how many fish you want to keep. Visitors can find the process of determining the correct license to be confusing. I am happy to help answer questions you may have. Do not wait until the day of your trip to purchase this.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring all applicable fishing licenses and a photo ID. I would recommend bringing snacks and drinks for your time on the boat. (Please note alcohol is not allowed on Canadian waters.) Additionally, the weather can change at any time. Having layers is always helpful and rain gear as well as sunscreen are both good ideas no matter what the forecast says.

Speaking of weather, what if it is bad?

Sometimes the best fishing days aren't the best weather days so rain won't keep us off the water. If there is severe weather forecasted I will make a decision the morning of the scheduled trip, as safety is always a top priority. Fishing times can also be adjusted to accommodate weather issues.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

There is nothing better than frying up your own catch for dinner. Yes - with limits - you can keep what you catch. The time of year, where we fish and the license you purchased will determine how many you can keep. I know what the limits are and will share with you during your trip. As part of your booking I will clean them for you when we get back to the dock.
